“The Tree” is the basic liturgical and organizational writing and the basis for Seax-Wica, but it is a ‘base’. It provides the rituals as if being practiced by a coven, but nowadays most Wiccans, especially those of the Seax-Wica tradition, are solitary practitioners (they work alone). The following information on the Autumn Sabbat is adapted from “The Tree” and is only one way that a solitary can use these rituals in their own practice.
Celebrate this Sabbat on the Autumn Equinox, around September 21st. Decorate the Altar and Circle with autumnal flowers. Set up your Altar as normal and perform the Erecting the Temple Ceremony, then read or recite the following:
“Now that the season of plenty draws to its close
I listen to the words of Freya
Her love is ever with her Saxon Pagans.
Although the season of plenty nears its end,
I know she does not forsake me,
For she is with me always.
She watches over me, as does her Consort, the Horned One.
When the dark months descend
Then will Woden hold vigil over me;
As will I over him.
For know I that as Man needs the Gods
So do the Gods need Man.
To the good seasons that have already passed,
And to the those that are yet to come,
Woden and Freya give blessings.
To the beauty of autumn,
And to those good friends I treasure.
Woden and Freya,
Who bring peace, joy, and love to the world,
Do I give my blessings.
So be it!”
