This is a just a brief introduction to spells and charms , which are a major part of the practice of witchcraft, often done by both solitary witches and covens. This is true whether or not that witchcraft is practiced by a secular witch or a Wiccan witch.
The most important parts of spellcasting (or any other form of magic) is intent, emotion, and visualization. Intent means to be truly invested in the outcome of the magic. Emotion is the desire to achieve the outcome. Visualization is the practice of seeing the successful outcome in your mind as you perform the magic. These three aspects also mean that magic tends to be far more powerful when you perform it for yourself, rather than for someone else. This might conflict with the opinions of ‘internet witches’ who offer to cast spells for their followers, but it remains true that they will never be as invested in the outcome as you would.
It’s important to know that Seax-Wica, and Wicca in general, is a religion devoted to revering nature and worshipping Lord Woden and Lady Freya (or whatever names they are known to you as). The act of casting spells or charms is not a core part of the religion, and it’s quite possible to be a follower of Seax-Wica and never cast a single spell. That being said, invoking the Lord and Lady during a Full Moon Ritual can certainly amplify the power that is produced. The intent is solidified by the act of performing the ritual, emotions can be raised when you are connected to the gods, and visualization is easier when meditating with the Temple (or Circle).
While we’ll be going deeper into the details of magic, spells, and charms, the biggest thing to keep in mind for the moment is that while spells are often intricately woven into the practice and lives of many Wiccans, it is not necessary to be a true Gesith of Seax-Wica. If the idea of casting spells or similar practices would turn you away from Seax-Wica, simply disregard that part and focus on the worship and reverence of the religion instead.
